1.Festivals are meant to celebrate important events.
節日是用來慶祝一年中重要的時候的。
mean的用法歸納拓展：
mean to do 意欲做，打算做......
mean doing 意味著做......
be meant to do sth,目的是要做某事。
be meant to do sth.目的是要做某事。
be meant for...供某人用；注定要成功
What do/did you mean by... ?你......是什么意思？
I mean it/business 我當真。
2.Discuss when the festivals take place...
英語中表示“發生”的詞或短語均為不及物，不用于被動語態。主語為所發生的事。
詞語辨析：take place,happen,occur,come about,break out 的比較
1) The wedding will take place tomorrow.
2) In 1919,the May 4th Movement took place in China.
3) What has happend to her ?碰巧，恰好
happen“發生”，普通用詞，含義很廣，常指具體客觀事物或情況的發生，含有“偶然”的意味。
當以具體事物，時間作主語時，happen和occur可以換用，但當happen用作“碰巧”之意時，不能用occur代替。
4) It happened to rain that day.
5) The traffic accident occurred on Wednesday.
occur"發生，出現"，較正式用詞，指事情偶然地、意外地發生或思想突然浮在心頭。
occur to 有“想起”的意思。
6) The Second World War broker out in 1939.
break out (火災，戰爭，疾病)突然發生，爆發。
7)How does it come about that you were caught by the police ?
come about "發生"，常指偶然發生的事情，且很多時候與how連用，與happen 用法較接近。

starve:suffer or die from hunger

be starved of / starve for; long for;be in great need of
渴望消息 starve for news/be starved of news
她很寂寞，渴望友誼 She's lonely,starving for friendship.

詞語辨析：offer,provide.supply.
offer 主動提供。 offer sth to sb;offer sb sth.
provide 供給（所需物，尤指生活必需品）
provide sth(for sb);provide sb with sth,
supply;供應（所需要或所要求之物）。
supply sth to sb;supply sb with sth.
5.Some festivals are held to satisfy...
satisfy 使滿意，使滿足
Some people are really hard to satify.
歸納拓展：
sb.be satisfied with sth/to do sth 對...滿意
satisfy/meet one's needs 滿足某人的需要
