syllables
音節：在英語中一個元音可構成一個音節，一個元音和一個或幾個輔音音素結合也可以構成一個音節。一般說來，元音可以構成音節，輔音不響亮，不能構成音節。但英語輔音字母中有4個輔音[m]，[n]，[ng]，[l]是響音，它們和輔音音素結合，可構成音節。它們構成的音節往往出現在詞尾，一般是非重讀音節。英語的詞有一個音節的，兩個音節的，多個音節的，一個音節叫單音節，兩個音節叫雙音節，三個音節一上叫多音節。如：take拿，table，potato，population。
劃分音節的方法：元音是構成音節的主體，輔音是音節的分界線。
1、兩輔音之間不管有多少個元音，一般都是一個音節。如：bed，bet，seat，beat。
2、兩元音字母之間有一個輔音字母時，輔音字母歸后一音節，如：stu'dent學生，la'bour勞動。有兩個輔音字母時，一個輔音字母歸前一音節，一個歸后一音節，如：let'ter，win'ter。
3、不能拆分的字母組合按字母組合劃分音節。如：fa'ther父親，tea'cher教師。
4、s結尾：dogs只有一個音節，因為只有一個字母s出現的情況下，只發出一個子音的聲音，所以不分音。
5、es結尾：noses，es是個獨立的音節。
6、當一個詞的結尾是-le，-el，-al時，加上這些前面的輔音湊成一個音節。如：ta-ble，lit-tle。
