1.a (great) number of(=many)許多,若干(p27)
只能用作定語,修飾可數名詞復數;number 前可用large,small等修飾
詞,當它修飾主語時,謂語動詞與它修飾的主語一致。
the number of ......的數量,號碼
當它與后面的名詞連用時,中心詞是the number,如果用作主語,及時后
面的名詞是復數,位于也要用單數,表示“......的數量很多貨很少”只能用big,great,large,small.

定語從句
關系代詞和關系副詞作用
1)把作定語的從句與主語中被修飾的先行詞連接在一起。
2)替代主句中被修飾的先行詞,并以先行詞的身份出現在從句中。
3)必須在從句中充當一個句子成分。
Whose 與所修飾詞一起出現在從句的句首,可指人或物,表“所屬”關
系;在從句中作主語、賓語。
whose 的先行詞用來指具體事物或抽象概念時刻與of which 結構互換,
詞序是:the+名詞+of which
He is the man (whose car) was stolen last week.
It was a meeting (whose importance) I did not realize at that
time.
They came to a house (whose back wall)(=the back wall of which)
had broken down.
He's written a book (the name of which) (=whose name) I've
completely forgotten.
He is no longer the man (that) he used to be.
This is no longer the dirty place (that) it used to be.
當先行詞在定語從句中作表語只用that,既有指人,也可以指物,但時常
省略。
All (that can be done) has been done.
All [(that) we have to do] is to practice every day.
In this factory I saw little/much (that was different from
ours).
All (that glitters) is not gold.(諺語)
不定代詞all, a lot, (a) little, few, much, none, anything,
something,everything,nothing等
